“HD GigaBOB” (Shielded Powered Balun)
The “HD GigaBOB” is one of two basic components of the video distribution system. It is located at the receive end of the system and permits a TV, or PC with a tuner card, to be connected to the system for High Definition TV over CAT 5 or CAT 6 UTP cable. The balun is not only an impedance matching device, but a small self-adjusting amplifier and signal conditioner that senses its distance from the hub and adjusts its output to assure proper signal level to the TV at distances of 100 meters . The input to the balun is connected via a RJ-45 jack and its output features a “F-Connector”. It is usually attached by velcro to the back of the TV, but engineering is currently designing the “HD GigaBOB” into a wall plate.
