CATV/Satellite Distribution

CATV/Satellite Distribution

The Z-Band system is a modern RF video distribution system that sends CATV/HDTV and satellite TV over CAT 5 or 6 cable. It also distributes VOD services and internally-generated video over the same CAT 5 and CAT cable. This is standard 10/100 Ethernet cable, which is the same type of cabling companies use to connect computers and computer networks.

The Benefits of TV/Video Distribution Over Ethernet Cable

Why does a Z-Band system distribute HDTV/video over CAT5 or CAT6 cable? While using coax cable has been the traditional way to distribute video on a wide scale, it isn’t always the most efficient. An Ethernet cable consists of four pairs of wires, only two of which are required for standard 10/100 Ethernet distribution. This enables our CATV, satellite, and video solution to bypass the Ethernet, as opposed to tapping into it.

Key benefits of video distribution over CAT 5/CAT 6 cable include:

  • Easier configuration: The need for only one piece of structured Ethernet cable when distributing CATV, satellite, or video along with the flexibility of the GigaBUD and GigBOB setup enables simplified system configuration.
  • Reduced costs: Because video distribution over CAT 5 and CAT 6 often requires less cabling and other materials by using existing CAT cable, it results in lower equipment and labor costs. There is also less of a need for preventive maintenance than with a coax-based system.
  • Scalability: The “plug and play” capabilities of video over CAT 5 or CAT 6 make the system extremely scalable. By adding GigaBUDs via a cascading process, you can easily scale the system to accommodate as many as 14,000 TVs and video devices.
  • Improved signal quality: Our system’s Automatic Gain Control (AGC) feature automatically adjusts for signal loss at distances of up to 90 meters, which ensures the best possible signal even when distributing HD video over CAT 5 or CAT 6 at great lengths.
  • Increased bandwidth: The availability of two extra pairs of wires provides twice the bandwidth, ensuring an uninterrupted feed when distributing video over CAT 5 or CAT 6.

Distribute HD Over CAT 5 or CAT 6 Cable and Get Thousands of Channels

RF video distribution relies on the same basic technology that is used in radio broadcasting. The RF spectrum has been divided into segments to provide space for various technologies, with RF video occupying the 5-860MHz range. For air broadcast, this range is also where all analog, SD, and HD channels are found. In fact, all CATV and satellite providers use RF in some form to distribute their signals.

Z-Band RF video distribution systems are flexible enough to provide multiple channel options. HD over CAT 5 or 6 cable can provide the simultaneous distribution of 268 HD channels — using just one piece of structured cable. If you choose SD, the total number of available channels expands to well over a thousand. You can even have a combination of analog and HD channels.

A Z-Band System Benefits Organizations

If your organization uses multiple TVs, you can benefit from RF video and TV over CAT 5 or CAT 6 cable. Here are a few industry-specific examples:

  • Hospitals: Hospitals can use Z-Band systems to provide patients with information regarding their treatment protocol or medications, as well as in-room entertainment as they are recovering. Additionally, hospitals can make training videos available to staff members via HDTV over CAT cabling.
  • Educational institutions: Colleges and universities can use video or TV over CAT 6 cable to distribute lectures, sporting events and general news and information to dorm rooms, student lounges and other areas of the campus. They can also provide convenient distance-learning opportunities for remote students in conjunction with an RF video distribution system.
  • Hospitality/gaming: Hotels can make use of HD over CAT 6 to enable guests to receive in-room movies or view the current room service menu. Casinos and racetracks can make use of our system to provide signage and live race feeds.
  • Military/government: Military and government installations can benefit from video and TV over CAT 5 or CAT 6 by using it for purposes such as entertaining troops, improving the quality of patient care in military hospitals, and delivering information to offices, conference rooms, and training facilities.
  • Corporate: Corporate business uses of RF over CAT 6 include providing video distribution throughout corporate headquarters, informing shoppers about promotions in retail stores, delivering timely information to stock trading floors, and much more.
